The Learning Centre
Through our Learning Centre, students may be assessed and supported with programmes designed to allow the students to access the curriculum. Wherever possible, teachers plan lessons and provide material that meets all learners’ needs within the context of class programmes through applying the principles of Universal Design for Learning. Some students receive specialised one-to-one programmes which are designed to meet very specific learning targets as rapidly as possible, with minimal absences from other classes. At times, in-class support from Learning Assistants will also be available. We offer a range of supports that at all times places the Learner at the heart of the conversation and decision-making.
As students progress through to the Senior School and begin their NCEA Journey, there are a range of formal supports that may be applied for to provide assistance to students with recognised learning barriers or difficulties. Information is available through NZQA regarding the range of Special Assessment Conditions that the Learning Centre can apply for.
Finally, the Learner Centre also coordinates a Peer Tutoring and Mentoring programme where Senior Students are matched with Junior Students to provide 1-1 support.
The Head of Learner Support coordinates programmes for students across the school and is based in our Learning Centre and may be contacted by telephoning the school or email hdt@rangiorahigh.school.nz.
