Academic Awards
Rangiora High School is currently reviewingthe awards presented at academic prize givings.
Year 13
In addition to a range of academic awards presented from within each faculty, each year Rangiora High School is pleased to present the awards for academic performance across faculties, including:
The Cartwright Trophy for General Excellence in Year 13
(awarded to the Dux of the School)
Awarded to the best all-round scholar in Year 13, decided over the student's best five Year 13 subjects, which qualify for entrance to University, by aggregating results of assessment.
The Macintosh Cup for Proxime Accessit
Awarded to the second-best all-round scholar in Year 13, decided over their best five Year 13 subjects.
The Lamb and Hayward Scholarship
Recognises academic performance, leadership, service to the school and cultural or sporting achievement.
Rangiora High School Scholarship for the top Māori Student Studying at Tertiary Level
Recognises a student who has achieved highly academically or in contribution to tikanga Māori in the school.
UNDER REVIEW:
The Cresswell Memorial Cup for Excellence in Year 13 Sciences
Awarded to the best all-round Science and Mathematics student. Results aggregated from either two Sciences subjects and one Mathematics subject, or three Science subjects.
The Galloway Memorial Cup for Excellence in Year 13 Humanities
Awarded to the best all-round Humanities student. Results of assessment from best three Humanities subjects aggregated.
The Davis Cup
Trophy for all-round Academic and Sporting achievement in Year 13.
The Helmores Award
Awarded to the top all-round student studying Law or Arts at University. Awarded to the eligible student on the basis of results of assessment aggregated over his/her best four subjects. The prize may be claimed on presentation of receipts for enrolment in the appropriate University course in the following year.
The J.F. and D.J.C. Moffat Scholarship
Awarded to the most outstanding boy and the most outstanding girl intending to study Sciences at University. Awarded to the young man and young woman with the highest aggregated marks from any two pure Sciences. Mathematics results of assessment are not relevant for this award. Prizes may be claimed on proof of enrolment in an appropriate University course.
The MainPower Prize for Year 13 Physics and Mathematics
Awarded to the student with the highest aggregated results of assessment in Physics and Calculus.
Academic Certificates
First in Subject:
Certificates will be awarded to the student achieving first in subject at each level.
Distinction:
Certificates will be awarded in each subject where 66% of results are at NCEA Excellence level.
Merit:
Certificates will be awarded in each subject where 66% of results are at NCEA Merit level.
Years 11 and 12

The Allen Cup - Academic Excellence in Year 12
The PTA Trophy for all-round Academic and Sporting/Cultural achievement in Year 12
The Rangiora High School Cup for all-round Achievement in Year 11
The Rangiora District Lioness Trophy for Extraordinary Effort & Achievement in Year 11
Awarded to the Year 11 student who, while not distinguished by academic or sporting excellence, has made an exemplary effort to succeed.
