A message from the BoT Chair

1 November 2021

Kia ora koutou,

On behalf of the Rangiora High Board I wish to inform you that it is with great reluctance we have accepted the resignation of our Principal, Karen Stewart.

Karen is retiring from Principalship and will take a well-deserved break. Over the past four and a half years Karen has led Rangiora High School to be in a very strong position moving forward. The Rangiora High Board is grateful for the excellent leadership and strategic thinking Karen has shown since being employed by the commissioner in 2017. We have a great strategic vision and the future is exciting for Rangiora High.

Karen has completed a power of work in a very short time. It is a demanding role, even more so in the past two years with the added challenges of a global pandemic as well as tragic losses within our Rangiora High School family.

Karen has worked tirelessly, maintaining a determined commitment to raising student achievement while also working hard to enhance the culture of our school. Anyone that has worked alongside Karen will agree that her work ethic and commitment to Rangiora High are inspirational. She will be sorely missed and we are very grateful she was able to take the helm at a difficult time in Rangiora High School’s long and proud history.

We wish Karen all the best with more relaxing future endeavours as she heads out to the North Canterbury foothills to spend more time on her farm with Giles.

On a personal note, I have admired Karen’s ability to place the academic needs and wellbeing of her students at the heart of every single decision she makes. Karen is a remarkable leader who genuinely loves her job and truly cares about the people she works with.

Recruiting a new Principal is one of the most important tasks a Board will undertake. We will be carefully planning the recruitment process, which will include working alongside the Ministry of Education, Mana Whenua and our Kahui Ako (community of learning). The Board will provide you with updates as this process progresses.
