Integrated Studies operates successfully in two models in the junior school.
One model of Integrated Studies has the same teacher for two or more subjects. The staff involved use a student-centred, inquiry-based approach to integrate two or more curriculum areas with classes of mixed ability students.
Another model of Integrated Studies is for students for whom, because of anxiety or lack of confidence, transition to secondary school is likely to be difficult. This class replicates certain elements of a primary school environment – a home room, fewer teachers, an integrated teaching curriculum, and a full-time teacher aide. The class roll is kept to about 25 so there is much more opportunity for individualised programmes and attention.
