2011 Press Cup Season

The first season of Press Cup Rugby has been an experience not to forget for those involved. The hard work required to prepare physically for this competition was not underestimated by most and those that put in the effort were rewarded for their efforts with a very good season. They have developed both as athletes and people and are a credit to themselves and their families.

Despite finishing 11th out of 16 teams the closeness of the competition outside of the top 4 and bottom 4 meant few points separated sides. The players can be proud of their achievements this season and satisfied with the fact that they have shown Rangiora High School deserves its place in this elite competition. A number of this team will be returning for 2012 and this bodes well for an improvement in results based on the experiences learned this season.

A huge thanks must go to Marty (co-coach), Kelvin (trainer), Sully (manager), John (manager), Harriet (physio), Jo (chef), Trudy (photographer) and Sarah (Rugby Administrator) for their efforts this season.

Manager's Report

Whilst being eliminated from the Press Cup Rugby competition was disappointing, to have made it to the Semi Finals for the Press Cup Bowl was quite an achievement in our first season. Congratulations obviously must go to the players, coaches and support personnel who have given up so much time to compete in this competition. From a Managers perspective the professionalism demonstrated by all those involved, has made the job undertaken by John Gibb and myself an absolute pleasure. I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone that has sponsored or supported the 1st XV this season, as without the contributions you have made, we simply could not have participated in the 2011 Press Cup Competition.
