New Principal appointed

Kia ora koutou,

The Rangiora High School Board is pleased to share that we have appointed Bruce Kearney to the position of Tumuaki/Principal. Bruce will begin at Rangiora High at the beginning of Term 2 this year.

The recruitment process was very thorough and robust. The Board worked alongside Sheffield recruitment agency with the support of Lynne Harata Te-Aika (MNZM) who is a Trustee for Tuahiwi Marae and Chair of Ngāi Tūāhuriri Education.

References were checked and industry knowledge utilised. We asked for voice through a staff survey and gained community input through information gathered in our strategic planning survey earlier in 2021. As a board, we were very clear and united in what we were looking for, and unanimous in our decision.

We were impressed with the calibre of applicants and chose the person who we felt would be able to build on the strong foundation that Karen has established over the past four and a half years at Rangiora High. We also wanted a leader that would continue the existing strategic direction of our Kura.

Bruce Kearney is an experienced leader, and is currently the Principal at Kaiapoi High School where he has been for ten years. The Board was impressed with Bruce’s energy, vision and strong focus on improving student achievement. He places students at the heart of all decision making, and is focused on building a positive school culture. We are excited to have him leading our school forward and I am sure that you will work with us to support Bruce and welcome him to the Rangiora community.

Karen Stewart will continue in her role until the end of Term One, before she retires from Principalship. We are very grateful that Karen is able to remain for another term. This also gives us time to formally farewell her and acknowledge the significant and positive impact she has had on our Kura.

We hope that our Rangiora High families are enjoying the summer break, and we look forward to a positive year ahead in 2022.

Ngā mihi nui,

Simon Green
