About our School School Day Structure Rangiora High School operates 24 timetable periods each week. Different lesson times operate on Wednesdays. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday start with period 1 at 8.40am. On these days the school day ends at 3.00pm. The first break (interval) is from 10.45am to 11.15am. The second break (lunch) is from 1.20pm to 2.00pm. The exception to the above is Wednesday when staff are involved in Professional Learning meetings. For students, school starts later on Wednesdays. Buses run approximately 75 minutes later (arriving just before 10.00am). Assemblies There are two types of assemblies. School Assemblies (based on year level) run during wananga classes each fortnight. Individual Houses also meet for House Assemblies three times a term. Attendance Student attendance is monitored electronically every period. To report an absence from school for any reason (sickness, appointments, etc.): Email:absences@rangiorahigh.school.nz or Telephone: 03 311 8888 and press 1 A telephone call to the school office must be followed with an appropriate note from a parent or caregiver. Parents and caregivers are welcome to contact the school's Attendance Officer, Janelle McKellow, on 03 3118888 for assistance with attendance and truancy issues. Buses In accordance with Ministry of Education regulations, a student living more than 4.8 km from the school is entitled to free bus travel. However, students may have to make their own way up to 1.6 km to a pick-up point. Information on bus routes and times may be viewed by clicking here. Specific information on pick-up times and stopping points should be obtained from the bus company, Torlesse Travel Limited, on 03 3135453. Good behaviour is expected on the bus at all times. Reports and Interviews Parents and caregivers receive regular reports on student progress and attainment. Student Achievement Interview Days (SAID) are held to discuss progress with parents and caregivers. However, we would encourage any parent or caregiver who has a concern to make an appointment at any time for an interview with your son or daughter’s Dean or class teacher, and not wait for the interviews. Please telephone the school on 03 3118888. Financial Matters School Donation: The voluntary school donation is $140 for a one child family, $250 for two or more students in a family. There is no discount for early payment. This donation supports activities such as sport and cultural pursuits. Note, these amounts are subject to change. PTA Donation: The voluntary PTA (Parent Teacher Association) donation is $10 per year. The school welcomes online payment. The school's bank account number is 12 3149 0228242 00 (ASB Rangiora). Please quote your child's enrolment number and name when making payments. Financial Assistance Some assistance is available for families in difficult circumstances. The school has access to funds to which application can be made for help towards purchase of uniforms and school books. Grants are usually limited to $100.00 - $200.00.
