Rangiora High School Rugby Club
Rugby at Rangiora High School continues to go from strength to strength. The newest initiative is the establishment of the Rangiora High School Rugby Club. This is a concept promoted by the NZRFU that works very well for schools wishing to grow the game and provide the unique opportunities available through schools rugby.
The focus of the Club is to provide a strong and positive rugby culture at Rangiora High School. We recognise the importance of club rugby in North Canterbury and see our role as complementing JAB competitions with opportunities for players to play interschool rugby on a Wednesday afternoon and participate in interschool exchanges while still playing for their club sides through to U16 level. At U18 level the school’s 1st XV is entered currently in the Combined Canterbury Country Competition with the goal of winning a place in the Press Cup schools competition firmly in our sights. This will provide talented young rugby players a fantastic opportunity to play big game rugby week in week out whilst representing North Canterbury rugby under the banner of Rangiora High School. The formation of a Rugby Club allows us to develop a sustainable management model that will ensure the long term future of 1st XV rugby at Rangiora High School and enhance the growth of the sport at a time when playing numbers are on the decline.
Rangiora High School celebrated its 125th Jubilee at Easter and our participation in this tournament was part of that celebration. We would like to thank Christchurch Boys High School for organising a fantastic rugby festival.
