Year 9 Curriculum
The following information is a general guide for parents and students. The Junior Curriculum Handbook also describes Year 10 courses which will help in the selection for Year 9.
All Year 9 students study English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education for a full year.
All Year 9 students also study Art and Music for half a year each.
In addition, all Year 9 students also study EIGHT short courses. Each short course is one term long.
FOUR of these eight short courses will be Health, Home Economics, Digital Technologies and at least one language. The languages offered are French, Japanese or Te Reo Maori. If students intend to study any of these languages in Year 10, they should do an extended course (that is, an additional term) in this language.
In addition, TWO of the other four short courses must be chosen from courses offered by the Technology Faculty. The courses offered include Food Technology, Textiles Technology, Robotics, Production and Processes Technology, Structures and Mechanisms Technology, and Graphics.
The TWO remaining short courses may be chosen from any Faculty, including those from which a course has already been chosen.
Other short courses offered include Animal Husbandry, Drama, Kapahaka, Media Studies, and Economics.
