Integrated Studies

Integrated Studies operates successfully in two models at Year 9 only.

One model of Integrated Studies has the same teacher for two or more subjects. The staff involved use a student-centred, inquiry-based approach to integrate a range of curriculum areas with classes of mixed ability students. In 2010, one of these Integrated Studies classes has the same teacher for English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art and Music. These classes have access to specialist equipment and rooms as needed.

Another model of Integrated Studies is for students for whom, because of anxiety or lack of confidence, transition to secondary school is likely to be difficult. This class replicates certain elements of a primary school environment – a home room, fewer teachers, an integrated teaching curriculum, a full-time teacher aide, and a specialist teacher as a second form teacher in a learning support role. The class roll is kept to about 25 so there is much more opportunity for individualised programmes and attention. Entry to this class is by parental choice.
