Year 9 and 10 Health and Physical Education

 

This is a compulsory subject for all Year 9 and 10 students. Health and Physical Education is taught over 3 periods a week for the full year. The focus is on the well-being of the students through learning in health related and movement contexts. There are four strands of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum that underpin the learning in this subject area:

 

  • Personal health and physical development
  • Movement concepts and motor skills
  • Relationships with other people
  • Healthy communities and environments

 

Year 9

 

The year will be divided into three themes:

 

  • ‘Challenge Yourself’
  • ‘What’s in a Game’
  • ‘Throw it, Hit it, Catch it’

 

Physical Education topics that will be taught within these themes are: Athletics, Gymnastics, Movement and Dance, Fitness, Invasion Games, Striking and Net/Wall games.

 

Health related topics that will be taught within these themes are: Well-being, Interpersonal skills, Types of behaviour, Assertiveness, Resiliency and Social responsibility. Both Drug and Sexuality Education will be taught in three week blocks in Term Two and Three.

 

Year 10

 

The year will be divided into three themes:

 

  • ‘Bring it On’
  • ‘Wide World of Sport’
  • ‘Swifter, Higher, Stronger’

 

Physical Education topics that will be taught within these themes are: The 5 Star Athletics Award scheme, Adventure Based learning, Sports Education, International Games, Olympism, Gymnastics, Movement and Dance, Fitness, Invasion Games, Striking and Net/Wall games.

 

Health related topics that will be taught are: Factors that influence well-being, Goal setting, Resiliency, Cyber Safety, Interpersonal skills, Drug and Sexuality Education.
