2018 Start-up Information

 

Welcome to the 2018 school year. Please scroll down for detailed information on the first few weeks of 2018.

 

TIMETABLES

  • Year 12-13 students can assume their 2018 subjects are confirmed, unless they are emailed in late January and invited to attend Course Confirmation Day (Tuesday 30 January) to meet with their Head of House or Dean to determine their 2018 course of study.
  • We anticipate emailing identifed Year 12-13 students on Friday 26 January.
  • Year 9-11 students should not need to make course changes.
  • Note, the start of the year has changed from previous years. Curriculum classes start earlier this year on Wednesday 31 January. See the table below.
  • Note, Moodle and the Parent Portal are currently turned off. Student timetables will be accessible on Moodle and the Parent Portal once they are confirmed and published to students (at school) in late January.

2018 Start-up Dates

 

Monday 22 January

STUDENT LEADERSHIP CAMP

  • The Student Leadership Camp (for selected Year 13 students) will run from Monday 22 January to Wednesday 24 January at the Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre.
  • This camp is organised Miss Anna Commons, our Student Leadership Co-ordinator, who has provided information to those involved.
  • Please note, the bus will LEAVE school for the Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre at 9.00am on Monday 22 January. Students will return at approximately 3.00pm on Wednesday 24 January.

NEW STUDENTS’ ENROLMENT

  • Enrolment of Year 9-13 students who were not able to pre-enrol before the end of 2017 occurs at 9.00am in the Hall.
  • Heads of House, Deans of House, Heads of Faculty and Curriculum Leaders will be available to assist with course selection and placement.
  • To speed up the process, Year 9-13 students who have not pre-enrolled are asked to obtain an enrolment package from the school office PRIOR to this day.
  • Please bring proof of address and birth certificate to school today.
  • Year 9-11 students new to our school must also bring their school reports.
  • Year 12-13 students new to our school must also bring their NCEA results 

 

NEW STAFF INDUCTION

  • New staff will meet in the Staffroom (upstairs in the Administration Building) from 8.20am.

Friday 26 January

TEACHER ONLY DAY (all teaching staff required from 8.20am today)

  • School closed today. No students attend. No buses operate.
  • Professional development for teaching staff until 4.30pm. 

Monday 29 January

PEER SUPPORT LEADERS' TRAINING

  • Peer Support Leaders’ Training will occur from 2.00pm to 3.30pm.
  • No buses today. Peer Support Leaders to make own travel arrangements.

Tuesday 30 January

YEAR 9 ORIENTATION DAY (FIRST DAY FOR ALL YEAR 9 STUDENTS)

NEW YEAR 10-13 ORIENTATION DAY (8.45am - 11.00am)

YEAR 12-13 COURSE CONFIRMATION DAY (for invited students only)

  • New students, including Year 9 students, attend from 8.40am today.
  • Buses will run at normal times from today onwards.

  • Year 9 bus students should assemble at the usual school bus stop near their home (or stand on the side of the road and flag down the bus). Your Rangiora High School uniform is your "ticket" to board the bus. Your driver will welcome you and advise you of the location of the normal bus stop. Parents and caregivers are welcome to telephone our bus company, Torlesse Travel Limited, on 03 3135453 for specific pick-up locations and times.
  • 8.45am : All new students (including Year 9 students), their parents/cargivers (if they are able to attend), and all staff are involved in a mihi whakatau on the Wales Street lawn. School uniform required.
  • 9.15am : New students' assembly in the Hall until 9.30am.
  • 9.30am : Year 9 Roll Call / New Year 10-13 Orientation (until 11.00am)
  • 9.30am - 11.00am : Year 10-13 induction in room M3.
  • 10.00am - 3.15pm : Year 12-13 Course Confirmation (for invited students). Year 12-13 students who are invited to attend but do not attend to confirm their course will have their timetables cleared and will start the process again. These students may not be allocated their first subject choice.
  • 11.00am : Interval.
  • 11.30am : Year 9 Peer Support session / Year 12-13 Course Confirmation continues.
  • 1.25pm : Lunch.
  • 2.20pm : Year 9 Assembly in the Hall / Year 12-13 Course Confirmation continues. Year 9 local (non-bus) students released at 2.40pm.
  • 2.40pm : Year 9 Bus Students' Assembly in the Hall.
  • 3.15pm : Bus students go home on the buses.

 

NOTE: Parents and caregivers of Year 9 students are warmly invited to the Year 9 "Open House" after school on Thursday 8 February to meet your child's teachers and network with other parents.

Wednesday 31 January

WEEK 1 - WEDNESDAY (Classes start today, for all year levels)

  • As Wednesday sport and senior study classes do not commence until 14 February,  WE WILL RUN A MONDAY TIMETABLE SEQUENCE TODAY
  • Form time for all students = 8.40am to 8.50am. Timetables issued.
  • School Assembly (for Lydiard and Ngata Houses) = 8.55am to 9.20am. Other Houses stay in Form Time.
  • Period 1 = 9.25am to 10.10am.
  • Period 2 = 10.15am to 11.00am.
  • Interval = 11.00am to 11.30am.
  • Period 3 = 11.30am to 12.25pm.
  • Period 4 = 12.30pm to 1.25pm.
  • Lunch = 1.25pm to 2.20pm.
  • Period 5 = 2.20pm to 3.15pm.
